System support for all programming tasks

You can program the S7-1200 PLC in Ladder Diagram (LAD) and Function Block Diagram (FBD). Powerful program editors are available in STEP 7 Basic for this purpose. Functionalities such as Drag & Drop, Cross-reference List, Intellisense, etc. provide the user with all possible system support for the efficient creation of his application. Even sophisticated technological functions such as closed-loop controllers or positioning controllers are easily implemented without in depth knowledge.

The integral WinCC Basic configuration system provides seamless complementation of the S7-1200 application with a visualization using SIMATIC Basic Panels, the optimal HMI for S7-1200 PLCs. Uniform handling of controller programming and HMI configuration, as well as access to the common data pool, enable efficient solution of the complete automation task.

Integral technology functions of the units, e.g. "Speed-control axis" or "Positioning axis" can be configured with the support of the built-in parameterization editors. Technology objects can be created and parameterized directly in the project navigation. A PID controller with self tuning (Autotune) is also available.

Symbolic programming

Efficiency in engineering also means that all data only have to be entered once. Consistent symbolic programming is one of the keys here.

In STEP 7 Basic all variables can be programmed purely symbolically, which means that the user will never face address conflicts or inconsistencies. This is not only true for the controller program but also between PLC and HMI.

Intuitive user interface

Latest Windows technologies and editors form the basis for the intuitive user concept of STEP 7 Basic.

The various editors are incorporated into a common framework thus ensuring that all current data are instantly available to the user and an overview of the project data can be provided at any time.

Hardware and network configuration

Configuration and parameterization of hardware and network are further important tasks in the creation of an application. STEP7 Basic supports the user with a photo-realistic view of the configuration of the hardware modules. All diagnostic information of the modules is provided in online mode and the user has a clear overview during commissioning and operation.

Fast user entry with portal view

The portal view considerably facilitates user entry into engineering work, because it enables even first-time users to quickly navigate to any desired task.

The maintenance personnel will also be able to quickly enter the online view directly from the portal view, without having to load the project first.

Intelligent Drag & Drop

Project data are often re-used at different sections of a project and interlinked with one another in various editors. Intelligent Drag & Drop creates these combinations automatically. It enables data from the PLC to be "dragged" directly to an HMI image for interconnection. It is also possible to transfer hardware addresses by means of Drag & Drop from the device view directly into the programming editor. The interconnections between the elements are automatically created by the system in the background.

Universal library concept

The system has a universal library concept for re-use of often required program sections.

Element such as blocks, variables, alarms, HMI images, image objects, individual modules or complete stations can be saved in global libraries, together with their parameter sets.
